Meet the Chiropaedic Team

St Leonards Chiropractor Vivienne Brimelow

St Leonards Chiropractor, <br>Vivienne Brimelow“From an early age, I had always wanted to be a Medical Doctor. It was my local General Practitioner who frequently encouraged me to pursue a career in Chiropractic, as many of his patients were not responding to conventional medicine approaches to pain and injury, but were achieving magnificent results through regular Chiropractic care.

I scheduled my first appointment with Rowena Lyons, the local Chiropractor, for the unrelenting migraine headaches I was experiencing”.

“The results were almost instantaneous after my first adjustment, the tension had reduced as if a huge weight had been lifted from my neck and shoulders. It was during this moment that I decided I wanted to be a Chiropractor”.

Vivienne began her undergraduate chiropractic education at Macquarie University, where she studied part-time, the basic sciences such as biochemistry, organic chemistry, biology, anatomy and physiology. Outside of university hours, Vivienne was running a very successful Injury Management and Rehabilitation business in a St Leonards health club. It was here where she discovered the benefits of exercise prescription and rehabilitation to assist patients with injury management and long-term health & wellness.

After completing her undergraduate studies, Vivienne commenced a master of chiropractic degree. Courses included anatomy, histology, pathology, rehabilitation, pharmacology, orthopaedics, neurology, radiology, radiography, diagnosis, nutrition, sports medicine, chiropractic adjustment techniques and patient care.

After graduating in 2005, Vivienne established her chiropractic and injury management practise in the St Leonards area.

Working adjacent to a medical practise, and receiving countless patient referrals from the resident doctors, Vivienne has adopted an holistic approach to health care and injury management.

“I will always remember my first visit to the Chiropractor, and the concerns and apprehension I had. So I make it a point to explain everything in advance, answer questions and attempt to over-communicate and to educate. Patients appreciate that”.

Vivienne is a passionate road and track cyclist, and sponsors the Bicisport Cycling Club, the Australian Time Trial Association(ATTA) and Friday Night Winter Track Racing(FNWTR/RAW). She enjoys many hours involved in indoor and outdoor sports, and visits her Chiropractor at least once a month to maintain optimum health and sports performance (if that sounds interesting, be sure to ask Vivienne to explain).

“Thank you for visiting our site. I hope it can be a source of hope and healing. If you have any questions about Chiropractic, Injury Management and Sports Performance please call me or click on the Email the Doctor button at the bottom of every page”.

Julia Balaz ~ Exercise Therapist

Julia Balaz - Exercise TherapistI have had a lifelong passion for exercise, swimming competitively as a child, and later on, in my 20s, becoming a “gym junkie” taking numerous aerobics and step classes. I discovered Pilates 5 years ago when I tried out a reformer class at an Elixr Health Club. I became an avid fan as I became stronger and leaner, and my posture improved significantly. Also, Pilates with its focus on the mind body connection helped me cope with my stressful job as a private banker.

However, more recently, when I suffered a fracture of the pelvis following a cycling accident, my whole world was turned upside down as I lay in hospital unable to walk and heavily relying on others to help me with the most basic tasks. After some hospital rehab, I was discharged and left to my own devices. Although I was not advised to continue with further rehab and exercise, I listened to my body and sought out holistic chiropractic care to assist with my recovery. The benefits of chiropractic quickly became apparent: less pain, more mobility and a sense of well-being. I complemented chiropractic with regular one-on-one Pilates sessions, and, as a result, was able to accelerate the healing process. I went from not being able to walk to regaining my strength and mobility in 12 months’ time.

I am now a passionate advocate of Pilates and the way it complements other modalities, esp. chiropractic. To this end, I undertook extensive training and qualified as a Pilates Instructor, leaving the corporate world behind.

  • Foundations of Fitness Instruction
  • Certificate IV in Fitness Pilates (includes Remedial Pilates)
  • STOTT PILATES trained – Intensive Mat-Plus course

My aim is to help people achieve a sense of wellness through better alignment & posture and correcting muscle imbalances that often result in chronic pain. I am particularly interested in using Pilates in injury rehabilitation as I have seen the benefits first hand!

I am very excited to be part of the Chiropaedic team working in synergy to provide a holistic solution to our clients. We are here to help you on a journey to better health and well-being.
