          Traversing the vast expanse of Australia by rail is an experience that promises both adventure and luxury. Recently, I had the extraordinary opportunity to embark on a four-day journey from Brisbane to Adelaide aboard the iconic Great Southern Railway, accompanied by my beloved mother. As a health professional and an enthusiastic advocate for wellness, I was curious to see how luxury travel could mesh with an active lifestyle. 
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          Notably, our fellow passengers, mostly aged between 70 and 75, seemed to embrace a more sedentary approach to travel. The contrast between this relaxed demographic and the indulgent offerings of gourmet meals, fine wine, and champagne piqued my interest. I wondered: is it possible to enjoy such luxuries within the confines of a train while staying committed to health and wellbeing?
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div&gt;&#xD;

          With that question in mind, I set myself a challenge. I decided to make health a priority on this journey by incorporating daily physical activity into the experience. My plan was simple yet ambitious: each day, I would walk 5 kilometres within the train's 1.64-kilometre length. Additionally, I wanted to incorporate resistance exercises, aiming to promote both strength and bone density. Armed with two 3-litre containers of orange juice and a laundry bag, I set out to transform our journey into a holistic health retreat on wheels.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          Every morning, as the train glided across the breathtaking Australian landscape, I began my exercise regimen. With each step and every repetition, I felt a deep connection to both my surroundings and my sense of purpose. The train’s spacious corridors and panoramic windows provided a spectacular backdrop, making each kilometre walked a scenic experience. I took full advantage of the Great Southern Railway’s unique setting, finding solace in my routine amidst the plush interiors and beautiful vistas.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div&gt;&#xD;

          Incorporating resistance training into my regimen proved to be both practical and effective. Utilising the makeshift weights I had fashioned from orange juice containers and a laundry bag, I engaged in a series of strength-building exercises. From shoulder presses to squats, each movement served to challenge my muscles and fortify my bones, all while preserving the essence of elegance and sophistication that permeated the atmosphere of the train.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          As the journey progressed, I felt invigorated by the synergy between health and indulgence. While others embraced the leisurely pace of luxury travel, I relished the opportunity to nurture my body. Conversations with fellow travellers often turned to wellness, with many expressing curiosity about my fitness routine. My commitment to health seemed to inspire a collective sense of vitality among the passengers and train staff, reinforcing the idea that age or location need not limit one’s dedication to well-being.
         &#xD;

          Interestingly, my fitness challenge attracted the attention of the Executive General Manager, who happened to be on board. As a fellow 40-something, he was intrigued by my experience and eager to understand my perspective on the journey. He initially held the notion that someone my age might not typically have the finances to partake in such luxury, but I countered that perspective. In my view, it wasn’t a lack of finances that deterred my demographic from such experiences; it was the perception that luxury rail travel is inherently sedentary, which might not appeal to those leading active lifestyles. I wanted to show that with a little creativity, even a luxury train journey could be invigorating and health-enhancing.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;

          As our journey drew to a close and we arrived at our destination in Adelaide, I reflected upon the profound lessons gleaned from my time aboard the Great Southern Railway. In a world where indulgence often seems at odds with health, I had discovered a harmonious synergy, wherein luxury and wellness coalesced to create an enriching and transformative experience. 
         &#xD;

  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;

          Indeed, my journey had been a testament to the notion that health knows no bounds – not even the confines of a luxury train. Through mindful movement and a commitment to holistic well-being, I had unlocked a newfound appreciation for the inherent beauty of balance, proving that one can savour life's pleasures without compromising on vitality. As I bid farewell to the Great Southern Railway and embarked upon the next chapter of my journey, I carried with me a renewed sense of purpose and an unwavering commitment to health – a testament to the enduring legacy of a truly unforgettable voyage.

          Causes of back injury

    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          As we age, back pain and injury become more frequent. In elderly patients, arthritis, degenerative disc disease, herniated discs and spinal stenosis are all relatively common causes of back pain. 
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          If your loved one is suffering from back pain in a nursing home, the first step should be to determine if any of these issues could be causing the pain. If so, the senior will be able to receive the treatment needed to help alleviate the pain.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;

          Slips and falls are also major contributors to back injuries and pain in nursing home patients. Twisting, landing on the back, or hitting something during the fall can all cause injury – especially in those suffering from osteoporosis or other diseases that make the bones brittle and weak. 
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          These causes may be more common in the elderly, however if you have ruled out other potential causes of your loved one's back injury, you may need to take a closer look at the care he or she is receiving.

          "The upright participants reported feeling more enthusiastic, excited, and strong, while the slumped participants reported feeling more fearful, hostile, nervous, quiet, still, passive, dull, sleepy, and sluggish,” New Zealand study authors write. Good posture was also associated with higher self-esteem, less social fear and fewer negative emotions. Additionally, they also had stronger pulse responses than their slumped colleagues.

The subjects were then divided into two groups and asked to perform one of two movement patterns for about three minutes (walking in a slouched posture or skipping).

    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          After the exercise, the subjects rated their personal energy level and described their subjective experience. Succeeding, they then exchanged to the other movement pattern and again rated their new experience. From the results of this study, the researchers concluded that energy level could increase or decrease depending on posture. The results indicate that the mind-body relationship goes both ways: the mind influences the body and the body influences the mind.

          I recently had the opportunity to visit Noosa, Australia and I took full advantage of my time there by incorporating barefoot running into my daily routine. Every day, I would run 5km on the beautiful sandy beaches of Noosa, wearing my Merrell Barefoot Running shoes. The experience was truly amazing and I would like to share my thoughts on why it was so special.

    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          So what do the results mean? I decided to undergo a sleep study to ascertain the cause of my constant fatigue first thing in the morning.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          I was connected to a polysomnogram (portable diagnostic study in my home) overnight. Due to the position of the device on my chest, I was forced to sleep on my back. The tracing was measured at 30 second intervals, with the following parameters:
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;ul&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           Frontal, central and occipital Electroencephalogram (EEG) - detects abnormalities in your brain waves or the electrical activity of your brain
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           Electrooculogram (EOG) - records the movements of the eyes during sleep 
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           Submentalis Electromyography (EMG) - measures Atonia or Bruxism 
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           Nasal and oral airflow
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           Electrocardiogram (ECG) - to measure disorders of the heart during sleep
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           Body position
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           Inductance plethysmography - to detect thoracic and abdominal movement
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           Pulse oximeter - to measure oxygen saturation Sp02
           &#xD;
        &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
          
            ﻿
           &#xD;
        &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/ul&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          The results of the Sleep study were quite interesting:
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;ol&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           Sleep efficiency was normal at 87.1%
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           Sleep architecture was normal
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           All stages of sleep were achieved
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           Only a few minutes of slow wave sleep were achieved
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           Supine REM sleep was seen
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           Sleep latency and REM sleep latency were normal
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           Occasional bursts of repetitive obstructive apneas and hypopneas
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           Sleep fragmentation (AI 7.8)
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           Oxyhaemoglobin desaturation 81%
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           Respiratory Disturbance Index (RDI) 14.1 events per hour
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           REM Respiratory Disturbance Index 37 events per hour
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           Average awake oxygen saturation 94%
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           Oxygen Desaturation Index (ODI) 11.2 events per hour
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           Time spent oxyhaemoglobin saturation below 88% was 1.4% of sleep time and below 80% was 0.0% of sleep time
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           ECG was normal 
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           No periodic limb movements
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           Snoring was recorded
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           Reported sleep quality was the same as usual, with discomfort of apparatus while sleeping supine
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/ol&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          In summary, I was diagnosed with mild Sleep Disordered Breathing (SDB). This was due to the RDI of 14.1 events per hour predominantly in REM sleep, associated with sleep fragmentation (AI 7.8) and oxyhaemoglobin desaturation to 81%.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           ﻿
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div&gt;&#xD;

          d breathing (SDB) consists of episodes of periodic obstructive or central sleep apnea and partial upper airway obstruction. 
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          It is to be noted that lying on your back (supine) can itself cause sleep apnea, as gravity increases the tendency for the jaw, tongue and soft palate to drop back toward the throat, which narrows your airways and can lead to breathing difficulties. Therefore, had the sleep study been performed while side-lying, the result may have been different.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;

          Adequate sleep is vital for your health, but can be hard to achieve when life is busy. Sleeping problems are common with up to 4 in 10 Australian adults not getting enough good quality sleep. Fortunately there are many things you can do to improve your sleep.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;

          Muscle memory exists in all kinds of different skills, from sewing, to dancing, to gaming. What is muscle memory? Does it involve changes in structure? What is happening in the brain?

          What is Muscle Memory?

          Even the simplest of everyday tasks involves a complex sequence of tensing and relaxing many different muscles. 
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
          For most of these actions we have had repeated practice over our lifetime, therefore they can be performed faster, more smoothly and more accurately. 
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
          Over time, with continual practice, actions as complicated as riding a bike, sewing, or even playing a musical instrument, can be performed almost automatically without thought.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
          We often talk about these skills as being held in muscle memory, but this term is really misleading. Although certain skills, like cycling or perfecting a golf swing, might require the strengthening of certain muscles, the processes that are important for learning and memory of new skills occur mainly in the brain, not in the muscles. 
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
          Changes that occur in the brain during skill learning and memory alter the information that the brain sends out to the muscles, thereby changing the movements that are produced.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
          Skill learning and memory are clearly quite different from other forms of memory. It is thought that human memory is made up of multiple different systems that can all operate almost independently of each other (Squire, L. R. &amp;amp; Zola, S. M. Structure and function of declarative and non-declarative memory systems. Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. 93, 13515–13522 (1996).
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
          We can have memories for facts, for example London is the capital of England, but we may not be able to remember when or where we originally learned this fact. Likewise, you might remember having a conversation with a friend, but not remember what the conversation was about. 
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
          This is because "declarative memory"; the memory for facts, is though to be a different system, controlled by different brain mechanisms, than the one used for memory of life events or "episodic memory"
          &#xD;

          Memory for skills can be thought of as another distinct system. You may be able to ride a bike perfectly, but that doesn’t mean you could explain to someone the exact sequence of movements needed in order to cycle. You may not even remember when or where you learned this skill. 
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
          Studies of patients with amnesia and other memory disorders have demonstrated how these different memory systems can operate separately. 
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
          The findings demonstrate an important aspect of skill memory; that it can be stored without any conscious awareness, and the skilled actions can be performed almost automatically.           It therefore becomes apparent, returning to the Velodrome Track to ride after a 16 year hiatus, that the brain never forgets the skills required to ride a bike and do so smoothly and with precision around the corners and on the banks of the track.

          Correct spinal motion, involving the movement of the spinal bones and associated tissues and proper posture, have an influence on the brain and its function, thus affecting overall health.

    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
          This is because many brain functions have been linked to movement feedback and the maintenance of our upright posture against gravity.

          Increased "body stress signals" such as a strain in the spine while riding, or an injury from falling off the bike, can lead to a range of deleterious effects in the brain, the nervous system and the body, more generally.
         &#xD;

  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
          Body awareness messages or "Proprioception" can be thought of as an essential nutrient for the brain. It is essential for perceptual awareness and interaction with our environment.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
          It follows then, that correct, healthy function of the body and joints, will lead to normal nerve system communication, which really means reduced "body stress signals" and increased levels of "body awareness" messages. (Seaman D. R. JMPT 1998; 21(4).
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
          It is for this reason that Chiropractic and Neuromuscular Rehabilitation are so vital to healthy brain function and memory.

The delivery is fast track with the predictable simplicity of a “one size fits all” formula.

          The clinics are almost exclusively motivated by profit and characterised by an “off the shelf” approach. It may be worth asking who owns the clinic. The answer is more than likely to be a Chiropractic entrepreneur, struck-off from international regulatory boards, replicating the same formula in Australia.

          Targeting the inexperienced, excited apprentice, motivated by the promise of success and financial reward, the formula then replicates and becomes scalable. Like “Fast Food Chains” they may well succeed but the stomach is far more forgiving than the Spine.

  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;

  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;

          Posture is the window to the spine and poor posture can indicate a problem with the spine and nervous system.
          &#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;

      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;

          Slouching and forward head posture is the first indicator of poor posture. This compromises lymphatic drainage in the neck (cervical spine) causing further strain on the posterior neck muscles. It increases the load on the discs, joints and nerves and can lead to premature ageing or arthritis of the cervical spine. 
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          Some of the causes of this type of posture are sporting injuries, motor vehicle accidents, working with computers and loss of bone density. Postural problems can simply result from poor sleeping habits on soft pillows and unsupportive mattresses.
         &#xD;

  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;

          Another common postural problem is flattening of the normal curve of the lower back (lumbar spine), which leads to a backward tilt of the pelvis and anterior weight bearing of the lumbar spine. This causes an increase in disc pressure, chronic lower back pain, muscle pain, sciatica, weaknesses and circulation problems of the legs. 
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          The abnormal weight bearing of the spine can lead to arthritis of the joints and damage to the discs.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;

          Chiropractors are expert at analyzing posture and spinal problems. They are trained to search for the problems that exist underneath poor posture. 
         &#xD;

    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;

          Analyzing posture from the front, the Chiropractor looks for changes in stance ie. outward turning of the feet, alignment of the knees, leveling of the hips and pelvis, height differences of the shoulders, tilting of the head and neck. 
         &#xD;

  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;

          The side posture is analyzed, by the forward or backward tilting of the pelvis, forward head position and changes in the spinal curvatures. Deviations from normal alignment are an indication of changes in the spine. 
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          The gait or walking cycle is observed, as it is an important indicator of foot alignment and weight distribution, ultimately affecting spinal posture. 
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          Changes in posture lead to distortions in spinal alignment and therefore vertebral misalignment (subluxation). This misalignment of the vertebrae affects the spinal joints and discs, causing changes in nerve function and therefore irritation of the spinal musculature and organs the nerve supplies. 
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          The long-term effect of this misalignment (chronic subluxation) can lead to spinal disc and joint arthritis, irritation of multiple organs and glands of the body leading to chronic ill health and poor musculoskeletal function.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          How are these deviations in the spine corrected and how can the long-term effects of this misalignments be reduced? 
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
